5、ivefunction;evasion;cosmeticfunction;politeness【摘要】委婉語(yǔ)是世界文化中普遍存在的語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象，它廣泛應(yīng)用于社會(huì)各階層和領(lǐng)域。英語(yǔ)委婉語(yǔ)作為眾多委婉語(yǔ)中的一種，具有其產(chǎn)生的深厚淵源，其中包宗教與政治的，也包括文學(xué)與歷史的。本文試圖從宗教、種族、政治、文學(xué)、歷史等方面入手來(lái)探討英語(yǔ)委婉語(yǔ)的產(chǎn)生淵源。語(yǔ)言反映生活，并且總是和社會(huì)緊密聯(lián)系在一起，在語(yǔ)言交談中，由于一定的行為規(guī)范和道德準(zhǔn)則的制約，人們通常使用委婉語(yǔ)----這一“潤(rùn)滑劑”，使刺耳，不文雅的話(huà)變得委
