6、eConferenceBoardhasfoundthatalargenumberofcompaniesarenowstartingtouseERMasastrategicmanagementtool(TheConferenceBoard,July2005).Inaddition,StandardandPoor’shasintroducedenterpriseriskmanagementanalysisintoitsglobalcorporatecreditratingprocessstartingin
7、thethirdquarterof2008(StandardandPoors,May2008).ThispurposeofthispaperistoexaminetheeffectofERMimplementation,andtoestablishwhetherfirmsadoptingERMactuallyachieveobservableresultsconsistentwiththeclaimedbenefitsofERM.Webelievethatourworkisimportantandti
8、melybecausealthoughmanysurveyshavestatedthebenefitsofadoptingERM(MarshandMcLennan,2005),therehasbeenlittleempiricalevidenceonhowERMaffectsfirms.WearguethattheprimarygoalofERMistoreducetheprobabilityoffinancialdistressandallowfirm
