4、dingtotheiraptitude,thistestisdesignedtoassessthefreshmen’sEnglishproficiencylevelssoastoassignthestudentstoclassesatdifferentlevelsaccordingtothestudents’aptitude.Thetestcompositionisasfollows: Table1 Inaddition,thisisacompletelyobjectivetestofthemultiple-choice
5、type,eachitemwithfouralternatives,so“thetypeofexpectedresponseiswhatPopham(1987)referstoasthe‘selected’response”(Bachman129).Inthisstudy,agroupof100testtakers’scoresareusedassamples. Table2isageneraldescriptionofthese25testtakers’performanceinthetest. Table2. Am

7、ledgeofgrammarstructurearenotsogood.Nevertheless,theEnglishlevelofthesefreshmenisgenerallysatisfactory. PartⅠislisteningcomprehensioncomposedoftwosections:20shortconversationsand6shortpassages.Somespecifictestitemsanditemdataarestudiedbelowtorevealthetraitsofthete
8、sttakers’listeningcompetence.Theindexofdifficultyofthispartisabout0.63,whiletheindexofdiscriminationisabout0.16.AccordingtoTable2,thedifficultyof
