3、paperinvestigatesandtriestoofferanswerstothefollowingtwoquestions:1.TowhatextentcanChinglishbetoleratedinChina?2.CouldChinglishbeanewvarietyofEnglishlanguage?KEYWORDS:Chinglish,StandardvarietiesofEnglish,Non-nativevarietiesofEnglishINTRODUCTIONForalongtime,studiesandlearningofEnglishinChi
4、nahavebeenfocusedonnative-speakerEnglishes,especiallyBritishEnglish,andlittleattentionhasbeenpaidtonon-nativevarietiesofEnglish.Atthetimeswhennon-nativevarietieswerementioned,itwasoftenforthepurposeofpointingouttheirdeviancesfromStandardEnglish.However,thestatusofEnglishlanguageintheworld
5、todayisnolongerwhatitusedtobelike.Itisapropertyoftheworld,notonlybelongingtonative-speakers,buttoallspeakersofEnglishworldwide.ItiswrongandabsurdtoassertthatEnglishisstillthelanguageofpeopleinitsinnercirclecountriesonly.Non-nativevarietiesofEnglishcanbefoundinmanypartsoftheworld,andarebeg
6、inningtogainrecognitionandacceptance.ItisthesamecaseforChinglish,EnglishusedinChina.Wefoundthattherolesofnative-EnglishvarietymaynotfunctionwellinthesocioculturalnetworkofChina.ThereisnointrinsicreasonwhynativestandardsforEnglishshouldbeadoptedinnon-nativecontexts,suchasinChinesecontexts.
