3、ustomsforenhancingtheefficiencyintheinter-culturalcommunication.1CustomsandinternationalcontactCustomscanbedefinedashabitandhabitudewhicharetheresultofconstantculturalaccumulationandestablishedusage(HanYangmin,1998:150).Itoriginatesfromspecificgeographicalandcivilenvironmentandisdevelopedbya
4、certainsocietyoranation.Besideswhat’smentionedabove,itisatypicalphenomenonofhistoryandculture.19Manywritershavedefinedcustoms,amongwhom,WuXiaoning(2005)said:“customsrefertothefixedwayofthinking”.Whenpeoplefollow“custom”,theyputemphasisonconventionalbehavior,therulesofdailylifeandthecharacter
5、isticsoftheculturereflectedbytheirrepaeatedbehavior,aswellasthedistinguishedpointamongthewholeculture.Forexampel,whenChinesepeoplemeeteachother,themostcommongreetingis“Haveyougoteaten?”TheAmericansoftensay“Howarethingssettingon?”WhiletheBritishoftenusethecounterpart“Ithasbeenverycoldtheseday
6、s?”Thecustomisthebasiccontentofethnologists’research,andissimilarto“folkcustom”.Thetwofrequentlyreplaceeachother.Thecustommanifestseachnationality’straditionalculturalvalues,andhasthenatureofhistoricalinheritanceandaberrance.Anotherdefinitiononcustom(HanYangmin,1990:150)is:Thecustomwhichisgr
