4、gaps.Inaddition,theunevennessinthesolid-shellgrowthpatterndecreasesfasterforasmallerwavelength.Suchstudiescanbeusedtotunemoldsurfacesforcontrolofcastsurfacemorphologies.IntroductionStudyofthermalstressanddeformationdevelopmentduringaluminumcastingintheearlystag
5、esofsolidicationcanbeanimportanttoolforunderstandingtheformationofcracks,liquationorotherdefectsintheingotsurface.Sincethemaindrivingforceofthermalstressdevelopmentinasolidifyingbodyisthetemperaturereductionprocess,controloftheheatextractionthroughthemold-shel
6、linterfaceduringtheearlystagesofsolidicationisoneofthemostchallengingandimportantproblemsassociatedwithaluminumcasting.Incurrentpracticessurfacedefectsareremovedthroughexpensivesurfacemillingandscalpingprocesses.Understandingtheeectofmoldtopographyontheheatex
7、tractionprocessandtheresultingshellgrowthmayallowcertaincontrolofcastsurfacemorphologiesandthusleadtoareductionofunnecessarypost-castingoperationsneededtoremovesurfacedefects.Theanalysisofthedeformationofasolidifyingbodyissignicantlydierentfromthatofastandard
