2、theintentionofrepublishingit,thoughhenevercarriedtheintentionintoeffect.InthepresenteditionIhavefollowedhisrevisedversionalmostwithoutdeviation.Ihave,however,retainedafewpassageswhichButlerproposedtoomit,partlybecausetheyappeartometorenderthecourseofhisargumentclearer,andpartlybecausetheycontainch
