3、mfunctioning.Despitedocumentationoftheecologicaleffectsofnonnativecrayfishfrom.3decadesofcasestudies,nocomprehensivesynthesishasbeendonetotestquantitativelyfortheirgeneralorspecies-specificeffectsonrecipientecosystems.Weprovidethefirstglobalmeta-analysiso

4、ftheecologicaleffectsofnonnativecrayfishunderexperimentalsettingstocompareeffectsamongspeciesandacrosslevelsofecologicalorganization.Ourmeta-analysisrevealedstrong,butvariable,negativeecologicalimpactsofnonnativecrayfishwithstrikinglyconsistenteffectsamon

5、gintroducedspecies.Inexperimentalsettings,nonnativecrayfishgenerallyaffectalllevelsoffreshwaterfoodwebs.Nonnativecrayfishreducetheabundanceofbasalresourceslikeaquaticmacrophytes,preyoninvertebrateslikesnailsandmayflies,andreduceabundancesandgrowthofamphib

6、iansandfish,buttheydonotconsistentlyincreasealgalbiomass.Nonnativecrayfishtendtohavelargerpositiveeffectsongrowthofalgaeandlargernegativeeffectsoninvertebratesandfishthannativecrayfish,buteffectsizesvaryconsiderably.Ourstudysupportstheassessmentofcrayfish

7、asstronginteractorsinfoodwebsthathavesignificanteffectsacrossnativetaxaviapolytrophic,generalistfeedinghabits.Nonnativecrayfishspeciesidentitymaybelessimportantthanextrinsicattributesoftherecipientecosystemsindeterminingeffectsofnonnativecrayfish.Weidenti
