1、ABSTRACTReflectionsonSocialWelfareinPost-reformChina:isitConvergingWithEastAsia?LIXiaoweiAbstract:Arecentdevelopmentofcomparativeresearchonthewelfarestatehasbeenthediscussionofan‘EastAsianwelfaremodel’.ThePeople’sRepublicofChina(PRC)hasusuallybeenexcludedfromthediscussion,asithasbeenseenasamemberofS
2、ocialistwelfarefamily.However,Chinesesocietyhasseenmajorchangessincethemarket-orientedeconomicreformsstartedin1978.ThusitisarguedthatChinenowshowsstrongelementsofconvergencewithEastAsiancapitalistsocieties,e.g.Japan,SouthKorea,Taiwan,SingaporeandHongKong.Thispaperseekstoanalyseinwhatwaysconvergencew
3、ithEastAsiahashappened,drawingonwelfare-stateconceptsandtopicsarisingfromaWesternframeworkaswellasfromanEastAsianperspective.Onthestrengthoftheavailableevidence,thispapercontendsthatwhiledeviatingsubstantiallyfromtheSocialistwelfarefamily,ChinahascometoresembleEastAsiainsomeimportantaspectsofsocialp
