2、conformancestatementsThereareanumberofdifferentaspectstodiscusshere.Thereareconformancestatementsrelatingtocontentpackagesthemselvesandtothesystemsandtoolsusingthem.Thoserelatingtotheformerarerelativelystraight-forward,butforsystemsandtoolsconformance,therearesimilarproblemsandchallengesasth
3、oseassociatedwiththemetadataspecification(applicationconformance).Thereisthedeliberateandrepeateduseofverb“process”inconformancestatements.“AconformingsystemortoolmustrecognizeandprocessanyconformingIMSContentPackage..”whichbegsthequestionastowhat“process”mightmean,butthisisfollowedinthenext
4、sentenceby“ThefeaturesandfunctionalityofsystemsandtoolsthatprocessIMSContentPackagesarepurposelynotspecified.”Thismaynotbeexactlywhatoneexpectstoreadinaspecification(!),andonewouldsupposethatitisuptothesystemdevelopertomakereasonableassumptionsaboutwhat“process”mightmeaninlinewiththeBestPrac
5、ticeandImplementationGuideandotheradviceinthespecificationdocumentset.Withoutgettingtooinvolvedindescribingvariousscenariosastowhatitmightmean,severalexamplesimmediatelycometomindwhichareclearlyopentointerpretationandarediscussedfurtherbelow.Moreover,systemsandtoolsconformanceisintroducedasf
6、ollows..“Forthepurposesofconformance,systemandtoolconformancereferstothesystemsandtoolsthatimport,export,create,andmanipulateIMSContentPackages.”Thisagainisnotwhatmightbeexpected(!).Systemsandtoolswhichmighthavequitedisparatefunctionalityinprocessingpackagesaretreatedthesamethoughtherearecle
