5、gingstudieshaveshownevidencefordistinctmentalstatechangesatworkinpeopleexperiencinghumor.However,thetemporalcharacteristicsofthesechangesremainelusive.Inthispaper,weobjectivelymeasuredhumor-relatedmentalstatesfromsingle-trialfunctionalmagneticresonanceimaging(fMRI)dat

6、aobtainedwhilesubjectsviewedcomedyTVprograms.MeasuredfMRIdatawerelabeledonthebasisofthelagbeforeoraftertheviewer’sperceptionofhumor(humoronset)determinedbytheviewer-reportedhumorexperiencesduringthefMRIscans.Wetrainedmultiplebinaryclassifiers,ordecoders,todistinguishb

7、etweenfMRIdataobtainedateachlagfromonesobtainedduringaneutralstateinwhichsubjectswerenotexperiencinghumor.Asaresult,intherightdorsolateralprefrontalcortexandtherighttemporalarea,thedecodersshowedsignificantclassificationaccuraciesevenattwosecondsaheadofthehumoronsets.
