3、dlongtermtoimprovetheperformanceandexpandtheuseoftoday’srenewableenergytechnologies,acceleratethedevelopmentandcommercialavailabilityofadvancedoptions,anddiscoverandpursuetheinnovationsthatwillpowerandfuelthefuture.EPRI’sfocusisonelectricitygeneration,delivery,andutiliz

4、ation,whileACOREisinterestedinallaspectsofrenewableenergydevelopmentanduse.Therefore,thestrategyspansthefullspectrumofresourcesandtechnologiesincludingbutnotlimitedtobiomassenergy,power,andfuels;geothermalenergyandpower;hydroandoceanpower;solarenergyandpower;certainwast

5、e-to-energyforms;andwindpower.ItalsocoversthecompletechainandcircularprogressionofRDD&Dactivities,rangingfromfundamentalsciencetocommercialoptimization,asshowninthefigureatright.ThisdiscussionpapercompilesRDD&DtopicsidentifiedbyACOREandEPRIwithinitialinputfromdiversesta

6、keholders.Thetopicsfocusontechnology,buttechnicalprogresswillbepacedbypolitical,eco-nomic,environmental,andsocialfactorsthatalsomeritsignificantresearchattention.ThiscompilationisonlyastartingpointtowarddefiningandimplementingtheRDD&Drequiredtogrowtheroleofrenewableener

7、gy.Acrossallrenewablesandwithinindividualresourceandtechnologyareas,muchadditionalworkisneeded—firsttodigmoredeeplyintothetechnicalissues;thentoestablishpriori-tiesbasedontheirpotentialtoyieldquantitativeimprovementsincostandperformanceandsubstantialincreasesindeploymen

8、tanduseovertime;andfinallytospecifyRDD&Dtimelines,milestones,resourcerequirements,androlesandresponsibilities.
