3、itabinemonotherapyassafeandveryusefulforrecurrentandadvancedmetastaticbreastcancerpa-tientswhoaregenerallyassociatedwithapoorprognosis.Materialsandmethods:Capecitabineandtwoconventionalcytotoxicantineoplasticdrugs(epirubicinanddocetaxel)wereemployedinthisstud
4、yinordertocomparetheirtherapeuticantineoplasticeffects.Thetumourtissuesobtainedfrom42patientsandbreastcarcinomacelllinesweretreatedwiththechemotherapeuticagentsaboveinvitro.Theiref?cacywasdeterminedusingATPBioluminescenceassaywhichmeasuresthemetabolicrate,WST
5、-1assaythatcouldquantifytheinhibitionofcellproliferationandimmunohistochemicalstudies.Theproapoptoticef-fectswasexaminedusinginsituapoptosiskit.Results:Bothsolidtumourandcelllinestreatedbycapecitabineaswellastwodrugsabovedemonstratedasigni?cantdecrementinmeta
6、bolicandproliferationrates.However,capecitabinetreatmentresultedinsigni?cantincrementofthenumberofthetumourcellsundergoingapoptosis.Conclusion:Resultsofourpresentstudydemonstratedthatcapecitabinecouldbeausefulagentagainstbreastcancercellswithlesssideeffectsan
