2、dischargedtreatedeffluentintotheManawatuRiver.TheArmyhasbeenunderpressuretoupgradethequalityofthedischargewithparticularemphasisonloweringthenutrientfluxandpathogenloadenteringtheRiver.Overthelast8orsoyearsseveraloptionshavebeeninvestigatedincludingupgradingtheexistingtr
3、eatmentplantanddisposingoftheeffluenttoland.OneoftheoptionsinvestigatedatanearlystagewastopipethesewagefromLintontothePalmerstonNorthsewagetreatmentplant,butthisoptionhadbeendiscountedbecauseoftheperceivedtechnicaldifficultyandcostofpipingthesewageacrosstheManawatuRiverw
4、hichisabout100metresbanktobank.UponreviewoftheoptionsPattleDelamorePartnersLtdwasengagedbyN.Z.Armytoreinvestigatethepipingoptionandthiswasthenselectedfordetaileddesign.Thispaperdiscussestheoptionsthatwereinvestigated,theprojectrisksassociatedwiththemandsomeoftheareaswher
