4、encieswillbetreatedinPartII.Itisfoundthatthematerialmaybedescribedbyfournondimen-sionalparametersandacharacteristicfrequency.Therearetwodilatationalwavesandonerotationalwave.Thephysicalinterpretationoftheresultisclarifiedbytreatingfirstthecasewherethefluidisfrictionless.Thecaseofamateri
5、alcontainingaviscousfluidisthendevelopedanddiscussednumerically.Phasevelocitydispersioncurvesandattenuationcoefficientsforthethreetypesofwavesareplottedasafunctionofthefrequencyforvariouscombinationsofthecharacteristicparameters.1.INTRODUCTIONThisisobtainedifadynamiccompatibilityrelatio
6、nisURpurposeistoestablishatheoryofpropagationverifiedbetweentheelasticanddynamicconstants.This0ofelasticwavesinasystemcomposedofaporousisacasewheredissipationduetofluidfrictionwilldisappear.InSec.6thedynamicrelationsarederivedelasticsolidsaturatedbyaviscousfluid.Itisassumedthatthefluidi
