4、oree?cientproceduresforstatevectormanipulationthandosequencesofrotations.Wehereshowhowsuchre?ectionscanbedesignedforasystemwithtwodegeneratelevels—ageneralizationofthetraditionaltwo-stateatom—thatallowstheconstructionofpropagatorsforangularmomentumstates.WeusetheMorris–Shoretransformationtoe
5、xpressthepropagatorintermsofMorris–ShorebasisstatesandCayley–Kleinparameters,whichallowsustoconnectpropertiesoflaserpulsestoHilbert-spacemotion.Undersuitableconditionsonthecouplingsandthecommondetuning,thepropagatorswithineachsetofdegeneratestatesrepresentproductsofgeneralizedHouseholderre?e
6、ctions,withorthogonalvectors.Weproposephysicalrealizationsofthisnovelgeometricalobjectwithresonant,near-resonantandfar-o?-resonantlaserpulses.Wegiveseveralexamplesofimplementationsinrealatomsormolecules.1.IntroductionManipulationofdiscretequantumstateshaslongheldinterest,mostrecentlyforappli
