5、influenceonhim.WhileMarkTwainandWilliamDeanHowellssatirizedEuropeanmannersattimes,HenryJameswasanadmirerofancientEuropeancivilization.ThematerialisticbentofAmericanlifeanditslackofcultureandsophistication,hebelieved,couldnotprovidehimwithenoughmaterialsforgreatliteraryworks,sohesettleddowninLon
