4、Abswhichreactedwithallofthe11strainsoffelinecoronaviruses,alsoreactedwithcaninecoronavirus(CCV)andtransmissiblegastroenteritisvirus(TGEV).Inmanyofthem,thepolypeptidespecificitywastherecognitionoftransmembrane(El)proteinofthevirus.Wesuc-ceededinobtainingMAbswhichdidnotreactwitheightstrains
5、ofFIPVTypeIviruses(showingcell-associatedgrowth)butreactedwithFIPVTypeII(79-1146,KU-1)and/orFECVTypeII(79-1683)viruses(showingnon-cellassociatedgrowth).TheseMAbsalsoreactedwithCCVorTGEV.TheseMAbsrecognizedpeplomer(E2)glycoprotein,andmanyantigenicdifferenceswerefoundinthisE2protein.Thesere
6、sultssuggestthatFIPVTypeIIandFECVTypeIIvirusesareantigenicallyclosertoTGEVorCCVthantoFIPVTypeIviruses.Furthermore,theMAbpreparedinthisstudyhasenableddis-criminationbetweenFIPVstrain79-1146andFECVstrain79-1683,whichwasthoughttobeimpos-siblebythepreviousserologicalmethod.INTRODUCTIONForsero
7、logicaldiagnosisoffelineinfectiousperitonitisvirus(FIPV)infec-tion,detectionofantibodybyindirectfluorescentantibodyassay(IFA)ispopular(Pedersen,1976b;HorzinekandOsterhaus,1979;Scott,1979).Ontheotherhand,felineentericcoronavirus(FECV)whichantigenicallycross-reactswit
