2、CoV-NL63andHCoV-HKU1,indicatethatthefamilyCoronaviridaeharborsmoremembersthanwaspreviouslyassumed.Allhumancoronavirusescharacterizedatpresentareassociatedwithrespira-toryillnesses,rangingfrommildcommoncoldstomoreseverelowerrespiratorytractinfections.Since
3、theetiologyofarelativelylargepercentageofrespiratorytractdiseasesremainsunidentified,itispossiblethatforacertainnumberoftheseillnesses,ayetunknownviralcausativeagentmaybefound.Screeningforthepresenceofnovelcoro-navirusesrequirestheuseofamethodthatcandetec
4、tallcoronavirusesknownatpresent.Inthischapter,wedescribeapancoronavirusdegenerateprimer-basedmethodthatallowsthedetectionofallknownandpossiblyunknowncoronavirusesbyRT-PCRamplificationandsequencingofa251-bpfragmentofthecoronaviruspolymerasegene.Keywords:co
