3、ration1.IntroductionThecurrentpracticeinpowersystemtransmissionanddistributionenvironmentsistoseparatethefunctionsofthelocalcontrol,protectionandsupervisorycontrolanddataacquisition(SCADA)systems.Onereasonforthishasbeenthetechnicalconstraintthathaslimitedtheamountofintegrationwhichcanbereli
4、ablyachieved.Localcontrolfacilitieshaveconsistedofhardwiredpanelstakingupmuchcontrolroomspace.Controllogichasbeenprovidedbyhardwiredcontactsorprogrammablelogiccontrollers.Untilrecentlymuchoftheprotectionequipmenthasconsistedofanaloguedevices,againtakingupmuchspace.Mostmodernprotectiondevice
5、susingelectronicandmicroprocessortechnologieshavesofarconcentratedonreducingthespacetakentoimplementtraditionalprotectionfunctions.Generally,SCADAsystemshavebeenaddedmorerecentlyandhavesuppliedtheirowntransducers,interfaceunitsandwiring.Thesehavegrownupinparallelwiththelocalcontrolandprotec
6、tionsystemsdespitethefactthatthisoftenresultedinmuchfunctionalduplication.WhereinformationconcerningtheprotectionoperationhasbeenrequiredbytheSCADAsystemthishasbeenderivedinasecondaryfashion,forexample,feedingtheprotectionoutputsbackintoSCADAdigitalinputunits.Recenttechnologyadvanceshaveled
