3、nterculturalcommunicationisclearlycapturedintheAmericanpoetRalphWaldoEmerson’ssimplesentence“Languageisthearchivesofhistory.”Hisdeclarationtakesonaddedsignificancewhenwerealizethatoneofthemajorcharacteristicsidentifyingusashumanisourabilitytouselanguage–tomakesoundsandmarkss
4、erveassubstitutesforthingsandfeelings.Overmillionsofyears,wehaveevolvedtheanatomynecessarytoproduceandreceivesoundshavetakenonmeaningbyrepresentingthings,feelings,andideas.Thiscombinationofevolutionandculturehasledtothedevelopmentofafour-partprocessthatenablesusshareourinter
5、nalstateswithotherhumanbeings.Inshort,wecanreceive,store,manipulate,andgeneratesymbolstorepresentourpersonalizedrealities.1.2TheimportanceoflanguageLanguageisextremelyimportanttohumaninteractionbecauseitishowwereachouttomakecontractwithoursurroundings.Ifweweretosurveyanormal
6、day,wewouldsoonseethatweusewordsforawidevarietyofpurposeswemayuselanguagewhenwefirstawake:“Goodmorning!”Weusewordsasawaytowritewiththeoutsideworld.Orwemayusewordstoshareanunpleasantexperienceandtogetsupportfromother:“LetmetellyouaboutthehorribledreamIhadlastnight.”Thisexampl
