3、riodicpublications,technicalbooks,andotherresearchsources.Thefindingsofthispaperconcludethattherearesufficientresourcestoensurenetworksecurity,butmanyoftheavailablesecuritymethodsarenotutilized.InternetSecurity14InternetSecurityThereisalargeamountofmaterialpublishedrelatingtonetwor
4、ksecurity.AnInternetsourcebibliographyofnetworkrelatedarticlescontainingover70,000referenceitemsgeneratedover5000referenceswhenthesearchtopic“security”wastypedintotheBibTeXquerybox.Thegoalofthispaperistotakeasmallsamplingofthevastinformationavailableonnetworksecurityandpresentasumm
5、aryofInternetsecuritysystemsandprocedures.Thebackgroundofthefieldwillbepresentedbutthescopeofthispaperdoesnotallowforanexhaustivediscussion.E-networksecuritymethodswillbeintroducedandIwillattempttoprovideinformationsufficientforanetworkprofessionaltounderstandthebasicprincipleofInt
6、ernetsecuritysystems.TheInternetThehumbleoriginsoftheInternetbythedepartmentofdefensein1971,thencalledARAPANET,hasmushroomedintothevastWorldWideWeb(WWW)weexperiencetoday.Thiscommunicationhighwaywasintendedfortechnicalcommunicationsbetweenthemilitaryandaselectnumberofresearchersandc
7、ontractors.Theopennatureofcommunicationsbetweenthemilitaryandtheirsupplierandresearchesresultedinaveryopencommunicationsystem.Gradually,thenetworkcommunityispatchingsomeofthesesecurityholes.TheInternetstartedwithonlyfourusesinitially,butnowitisestimatedthatthenumberofusersonthewebi
