2、nsition.TheLITAPublicationsCommitteeledbyKristenAntelmandidathoroughanalysisofpublishingoptionsandpresentedathoughtfulproposaltotheLITABoard;theLITABoardhadtheforesighttopushforanopen-accessjournalevenifitmightmeanatemporaryrevenuelossforthedivision;Bob
3、Gerrity,ITALeditor,hasenthusiasticallysupportedthistransitionanddidtheheavyliftingtomakeithappen;andtheLITAofficestaffworkedtirelesslyforthepastyeartohelpshepherdthisproject.Iamproudtobeleadingtheorganizationduringthistime.ToseeITALgoopenaccessinmypresi
4、dentialyearisextremelygratifying.AsCliffLynchnotesinhiseditorial,“thelibraryprofessionhasbeenslowtoopenupaccesstothepublicationsofitsownprofessionalsocieties,totakeadvantageofthegreaterreachandimpactthatsuchpoliciescanoffer.”Aslibrarianschallengepublish
5、erstopursueopen-accessvenues,myselfincluded,Iamrelievedtonolongerbeahypocrite.Bysupportingopenaccesswearesendingastrongmessagetothecommunitythatwebelieveinthebenefitsofopenaccessandweencourageotherlibraryorganizationstodothesame.ITALwillnowreachamuchbro
6、aderandlargeraudience.Thiswillbenefitourauthors,theorganization,andthescholarshipofourprofession.Iunderstandthatwhileourmembersembraceopenaccess,noteveryoneispleasedwithanonline-onlyjournal.Thenumberofnewjournalsbeingofferedelectronicallyonlyisgrowingan
7、dIbelievewearebeginningtoseeadeclineinthedualpublishingmodelofpublishersandsocietiesofferingbothprintandonlinejournals.Mylibraryhasbeencuttingbackconsistentlyonprintcopiesofjournalsandthisyearwillgetonlyahandfulofjournalsinprint.Personally,Ihaveembraced
8、theelectronicpublishingworld.Infact,IheldoffonsubscribingtoTheNewYorkeruntilithadaniPadsubscriptionmodel!IestimatethatIread95percentofmybooksandallofmyprofessionaljournalselectronically.Therevolutionhashappenedformeandformanyothe
