2、neighthundredyearshavepassedsinceTaHuilived,thegistofhismessageisnotboundtoanyparticulartime,place,ormodeofexpression---hopefullyhiswordswillstillhithomeandhelppeopleoftodaytounfoldtheirpotential.AbouttheAuthorTaHuiwasbornintothecosmopolitanworldoftheSungdynasty.Itwasanagewhenbothrat

4、lcapital.Thiswasnocharmedgoldenage,unself-consciousandunquestioning.Thepoliticalsensibilitiesofmanyupper-classChinesewereaffrontedbytherelativeweaknessofthedynastytowardsthepowerful"barbarian"statespressinginonthenortheastandnorthwest,andreformmeasurestostrengthenthegovernmentandaugm
