2、aperorwatchtelevision,andwalkaroundthestreetswitheyesdown,youwillfinditimpossibletoavoidsomeformofpublicity”(Dyer1982:3).Advertisingnearlyappearseverywhereanditseffectsonusaresodeep-rootedthatwesay“noadvertising,nolife”.Withtheriseofpeople’slivingstandard,peoplee
3、speciallywomenattachgreatimportancetotheirphysicalappearance.Asaresult,cosmeticsindustrybeginstoflourishandcosmeticsadvertisementsbecomeanimportantpartinourdailylives.Inordertogivepublicitytotheirproductsorservices,advertisersareingreatneedofusingsomerhetoricalme
4、anstoattractcustomers’attention.“Advertisersmayneverhavestudiedrhetoric,buttheyemploymanyofthestrategiesofthisancientarttoinfluencetheattitudesandactionsofthosewhoareexposedtotheadvertisements”(Corbett﹠Connors1999:2).Amongthesestrategies,Aristotle’spersuasionprin
5、ciplesareverypopularandwidespread.ItisafactthatAristotle’sRhetoricisregardedasthefoundationofwesternclassicalrhetoric.Inthismasterpiece,theknowledgeofpersuasionandappealingstrategies,suchas“ethos”,“l(fā)ogos”and“pathos”,areillustratedinasystematicandrationalway.Inmod
