4、ars,inonemidwesternstate(Indiana)intheUnitedStates.Specifically,thehighestlevelofeducationattainedbytheearlychildhoodprofessionalsandtheireducationalbackground(whetherspecifictoworkingwithyoungchildrenornot)werecomparedtotheirself-reportedbeliefsaboutbestpracticewithyoungchildren,usingdeve
5、lopmentallyappropriatepractices(DAP)asthephilosophyforcomparison.AcomparisonoffactoranalysesfromthisstudyandfromstudiesconductedbyCharlesworthandcolleaguesin1991and1993indicateclearsimilarities.Asignificant,positivecorrelationwasfoundbetweenlevelofeducationandscoresforself-reportedDAPbelie
6、fs.Resultsfrom2x3ANOVAsofthethreefactorsthatemergedfromthesedataindicatethatprofessionalswithabachelor'sdegreeorhighermorestronglyadoptedDAPasaphilosophyoverallthancolleagueswithlesseducation,whereascourseworkspecifictoworkingwithyoungchildrenwasfoundtobesignificantonlyinthecaseofbeliefsre
7、latedtochild-initiatedlearning.Thus,ingeneral,participantswith4yearsofcollegeormore,evenifinanunrelatedfield,heldstrongerDAPbeliefsthanthosewithlesseducation,evenifthateducationwasdirectlyrelatedtoworkingwithyoungchildren.Thearticlesuggeststhatmoreresearchneed
