5、named“MetaphorsWeLiveby”,whichestablishedthestatusofmetaphorstudiesincognitiveapproach.Theyproposedthathumanconceptualsystemwasmetaphoricalwhichwasmetaphoricallystructuredanddefined.Inotherwords,metaphorispervasiveinhuman’slife,eitherindailycommunicationorinacade
6、micstudies.Metaphorcomprehension,asonesignificantpartofmetaphor,fulfillsandembodiesworkingmechanismandeffectsofmetaphors.Therefore,metaphorcomprehensionhasbecomeaconsiderabletopicwhichhasbeentakenseriouslyinmanypreviousstudies.Thethesisaimstostudymetaphorcomprehe
7、nsionfromtheperspectiveofcognitiveaspectandtoexploretheeffectofcognitiveabilityonmetaphorcomprehension.Accordingly,itemploysbothquantitativeanalysisandqualitativeanalysisinwhich66Englishmajorsinvolvedinthestudyaretestedoncognitiveabilityandmetaphorcomprehensionre
8、spectively.AsetofstatisticssuggestthatEnglishmajor’scognitiveabilitycanpositivelyaffecttheirmetaphorcomprehension.Inaddition,EnglishMajorswithdifferentlevelsof
