4、tionfiniteelementmethod.Theelastic-perfectlyplasticmaterialisadaptedinthefiniteelementmethod.Withthestrengthreduction,thenonlinearFEMmodelofjointedrockslopereachesinstability,andthenumericalnon-convergenceoccurssimultaneously.Thesafetyfactoristhenobtainedbystrengthreductionalgorithm.Atth
5、esametimethecriticalfailuresurfaceandoverallfailureprogressarefoundautomatically.Thenumericalconvergenceornon-convergenceisrelatedtotheyieldcriterion.Comparisonismadeofseveralyieldcriteriaincommonuse.TheMohr-Coulombcriterionisundoubtedlythebest-knowncriterion.Butitsyieldsurfaceisanirregu
6、larhexagonalconeinprincipalstressspace.Itbringsdifficultytonumericalanalysis.ForconveniencetheMohr-CoulombcriterionisreplacedbyMohr-Coulombequivalentareacircleyieldcriterion.Throughaseriesofcasestudies,itisfoundthatthesafetyfactorobtainedbystrengthreductionFEMwithMohr-Coulombequivalentar
