3、reforeneededinmostlandprocessmodeling.AsanadditionalbiophysicalparameterofcomparableimportancetoLAI,theclumpingindexquantifiesthedeviationoftheleafspatialdistributionfromtherandomcase。ItisusefulforconvertingtheeffectiveLAItothetrueLAIandforseparatingthecanopyintosunlitandshadedleavesinphotosynth
4、esisandevapotranspirationmodeling.However,duetothelackofhighresolutionmulti。angularremotesensingdata,thereareonlyfewclumpingindexmapsavailablepresently.Thisthesisisfocusedonanewinversionalgorithmofthe500mresolutionclumpingindexandtrueLAIfromMODIS(ModerateResolutionImagingSpectroradiometer)data.T
5、he500mresolutionclumpingindexandtrueLAIoverChinaarefirstpresentedinthisstudy,whichcanbesuppliedtousersforvariouslandsurfacestudies.The500mresolutionMODISBRDF(BidirectionalReflectanceDistributionFunction)modelparametersproduct(MCD43A1)makesuseofmulti.dateobservationdataandasemi—empiricalkernel-dr
6、ivenBRDFmodel(Ross.Limodel)todetermineaglobalsetofBRDFparametersdescribingtheanisotropicbehaviorofsurfacescattering,whichprovidesanewwaytoretrievetheclumpingindexofvegetatedsurfacesoverlargeareas.TheabilityoftheRoss.Limodeltosimulatethebidirectionalreflectanceisassessedbycomparingitssimulatedref
7、lectancebasedontheMCD43A1datawithobservedPOLDER一3(PolarizationandDirectionalityofEarthReflectance)BRDFdata.ItisfoundthattheRoss.Limodelsimulateswellthebidirectionalreflectanceofgroundobjectsatmostobservationangles,butsignifi
