3、lism.’Theyfinditdistastefulandunscientific.”Todaythisissuddenlynolongertrue.U.S.intellectualsandthepoliticalelitearewarmlyembracinganopenly“imperialist”or“neoim-perialist”missionfortheUnitedStates,repeatedlyenunciatedinsuchprestigiousprintmediaastheNewYorkTimesan
4、dForeignAffairs.ThisimperialistfervorowesmuchtotheBushadministration’sWaronTerrorism,whichistakingtheformoftheconquestandoccupationofAfghanistanand—ifitsambitionsarefulfilled—alsoIraq.AccordingtotheBushadministration’sNationalSecurityStrategy,therearenorec-ognize
5、dlimitsorboundariestotheuseofmilitarypowertopromotetheinterestsoftheUnitedStates.InthefaceofthisattempttoextendwhatcanonlybecalledtheAmericanEmpire,intellectualsandpoliti-calfiguresarenotonlyreturningtotheideaofimperialism,butalsototheviewofitpropoundedbyitsearli
