3、06forRNA5,0.93x106forRNA6and0.62x106forRNA7.Theminorspecieshaveasizeof4.7x106(RNAa)and1.5xl0s(RNAb).Thesamenumberofspecieswerefoundbyelectrophoresisafterdenaturationwithglyoxal-dimethylsulphoxide.NogrossdifferenceinnumberofRNAsandtheamountofeachspeci
4、eswasfoundbetweentotalcytoplasmicRNA,polyadenylatedcytoplasmicRNAandRNAextractedfrompelletedpolysomes.Coronavirusesareimportantpathogens(Robb&Bond,1979)whichcausediseasesofeconomicsignificancesuchasavianbronchitisandtransmissiblegastroenteritisinpigs
5、.Inman,infectionsofboththerespiratoryandgastrointestinalsystemareinducedbycoronavirusesandapossibleassociationwithdemyelinatingcentralnervoussystemdisordershasbeendiscussed(Burksetal.,1980).Inthisconnection,themurinecoronavirusJHMhasreceivedattention
6、becauseofitsabilitytoinducedemyelinatingcentralnervousdiseasesinmiceandrats(Weiner,1973;Nagashimaetal.,1978,1979).However,littleisknownaboutthereplicationofthisvirusgroupinlyticandpersistentinfections.Sofar,ithasbeenshownthatthegenomeofJHMvirusconsis
7、tsofapolyadenylated,single-strandedinfectiousRNAwithamol.wt.ofatleast5.4x106(Lai&Stohlman,1978;Wegeetal.,1978).JHMvirionscontainsixmajorproteinswithamol.wt.between23x103and170x10a.Fouroftheseproteinsareglycosylated(Wegeetal.,1979).Withinthecells,seve
8、ralpolypeptideshavebeendetectedwitharespecifictovirus-infectedcellsandtheirpossiblerelationshiptothevirionproteinshasbeeninvestigated(Siddelletal.,1981;Bondetal.,1979).Studiesonthecell-freetranslationofRNAfromJHM-infectedcellsgavethefirstexperimental
