3、itingthesameenvironments.Sequencecomparisonsweremadefrom1.2-to8.9-kbsegmentsonthe39endofthegenome.FECV/FIPVpairsfromthesamecatteriesorshelterswere97.3±99.5%relatedbutweregeneticallydistinctfromFIPVandFECVstrainsobtainedfromcatslivingingeographicallydistinctenvironments.Thehighgeneticsimilaritybetw
4、eenFECVsandFIPVsfromthesameenvironmentstronglysuggestedacommonancestry.BasedonthepresenceofdeletionmutationsintheFIPVsandnotintheFECVs,itwasconcludedthatFIPVsevolvedasmutantsofFECVs.ThemutationsaredeletionsintheFIPVsandnotinsertionsintheFECVssincesimilarsequencesarepresentinotherstrainsthathaveseg
5、regatedearlierfromacommonancestor.Therefore,theorderofdescentisfromFECVtoFIPV.MutationsuniquetoFIPVswerefoundinopenreadingframes(ORFs)3cin4of6isolatesand/or7bin3of6isolates.Whenthestudywasextendedtoinclude7additionalFIPVisolates,11/13oftheFIPVssequencedwerefoundtohavemutated3cORFs.?1998AcademicPre
