5、erformanceworksystems(HPWS)andorganizationalperformanceindicatescausality.Strategichumanresourcemanagementtheories,includingtheresource-basedviewofthefirmandthebehavioralperspec-tive,haveprovidedexplanationslinkinghumanresourcemanagementpracticestoorg
6、anizationalperformance.WeaddargumentsbasedupongeneralsystemstheorytosuggestamorecomplexrelationshipwhereperformanceprovidesfeedbackonHPWSintheformofinformationandresources.Thisfeedbackgeneratesboththedataandtheslackresourcesneededtosupportanadaptivepr
7、ocessofHPWSimplementation.WetestthecausalassociationsbetweenHPWSandperformanceusingalargelongitudinaldatasetwiththreetimepoints.FindingsshowedthatpastHPWSpositivelycontributestolaterproductivityaswellasthereverse.Thereciprocalrelation-shipsupportsthen
