1、Teachers'ProfessionalDevelopment:PartnershipsinResearchAbstractThisstudydescribesthedesignandresultsofadescriptiveandexplorativecasestudyintothedevelopmentofprofessionalknowledgebypre-andinserviceteachersthroughcollaborativeresearchinanEnglishasaForeignLanguage(EFL)setting
2、.Studieshaveshownthatteacherresearchhasaprofoundeffectonthosewhohavedoneit,insomecasestransformingclassroomsandschools.Ithasbeenfoundtofacilitateteachers'criticalthought,boostteachers'self-esteem,andincreasetheirawarenessofstudents'needs.Yet,ithasbeenobservedthatneitherpre
3、-norin-serviceteachersofEnglishcandomuchresearchinTurkey.Themainreasonisthatpre-serviceteachersgenerallycannotgetpermissionfromschoolsforresearch,andin-serviceteachersdonothavesufficienttimeandtrainingtoconductresearch.Thus,theimpetusforthisstudycamefromthebeliefthatifpre-
4、andin-serviceteachersareencouragedtocollaborateforresearch,bothpartieswillbenefit.Tenpre-serviceandtenin-serviceteachersparticipatedinthisstudy.Afterbeingprovidedwithrelevanttheoreticalknowledgeonresearch,theycollaboratedandconductedtheirresearchinin-serviceteachers'classe
5、s.Itwasfoundthatparticipatingincollaborativeactionresearchgaveteachersfrombothgroupsaframeworkforsystematicallyobserving,evaluating,andreflectingontheirL2teachingpractices.Theyalsogainedanunderstandingoftheimportanceofcollaboration.IntroductionThereisgeneralagreementthatle
