1、MyViewontheHistoryofEnglishLanguageEducationinChinaⅠBackgroundNowadays,EnglishlanguageeducationareverypopularinChina.And,thegovernmentpaysmuchattentiononELEateveryeducationprocedure.Whatsmore,theproportionofthescoresofEnglishyougetintheCollegeEntranceExaminationisreallyhigh.ThatiswhytheChinese
2、studentsarecrazyaboutEnglish.ELEhasalonghistoryinChina,wecandatebacktoQingdynasty.But,fromthelateQingdynastytonow,Englishlanguagetaughtasarequiredcourseofficially.Intheviewofoverallsituation,wecandividethehistoryofELEinto6periods.Thefirstperiodistheyearsbefore1949.ItincludestheQingdynasty,theC
3、hineseRepublicandtheyearsbeforethefoundationofPeopleRepublicofChina.Thesecondperiodisfromtheyear1949to1956,itmainlyshowstheSovietinfluencestochinasELE.Thethirdperiodisfromtheyear1956to1966;itshowstheexperimentationperiodofELEinNewChina.Theforthperiodisfromtheyear1966to1976,itisachaosperiod,bec
4、auseoftheCulturalRevolution.Thefifthperiodisfromtheyear1976to1986,duringthisperiod,itshowsusafastrecovery,innovationandreformperiodofELEinChina.Thesixthperiodisfromtheyear1986to1996,duringthisperiod,elewasreformed.Fromallthesixperiods,wecanseehowtheeleinchinahaddeveloped.Ithadexperiencedupsand
5、downs.Fortunately,ELEhadwelldevelopednow,but,itstillkeepsalowerlevelthanothercountries.ⅡmyviewFirstofall,whythegovernmentsallowpeopletolearnEnglish?WhytheysupporttoestablishtheEnglishdepartmentorEnglishspecializedschool?ThatmainlybecauseweChinesepeoplehavetheneedtocommunicatewiththeWesterners,
6、weneedtolearntheadvancedtechnologyfromthewestern.InthelateQingdynasty,withtheFirstOpiumWarandtheSecondOpiumWardefeated,theQinggovernmentrealizedthatweneedtolearntheadvancedtechnologyfromthewestern,atfirst,weneedtounderstandtheirlanguage—English.So,theyestablished“Tungwencollege”in1862.Untilnow
