2、wenotonlyhaveaparliamentarydemocracybutonquestionsaboutthearrangementsforhowwe’vegoverned,therearetimeswhenitisrighttoaskthepeoplethemselves,andthatiswhatwehavedone.TheBritishpeoplehavevotedtoleavetheEuropeanUnion,andtheirwillmustberespected.Iwanttothankeveryonewhotookpart
3、incampaignonmysideoftheargument,includingallthosewhoputasidepartydifferences,tospeakinwhattheybelievedwasthenationalinterest.Andletmecongratulateallthosewhotookpartinthe“LeaveCampaign”forthespiritedandpassionatecasetheymade.ThewilloftheBritishpeopleisaninstructionthatmustb
4、edelivered.Itwasnotadecisionthatwastakenlightly,notleastbecausesomanythingweresaidbymanydifferentorganizationsaboutthesignificanceofthisdecision.Sotherecanbenodoubtabouttheresult.AcrosstheworldpeoplehavebeenwatchingthechoicethatBritonhasmade.Iwouldreassurethosemarketsandin
5、vestorsthatBritain’seconomyisfundamentallystrong.AndIwouldalsoreassuretheBritsintheEuropeancountriesandEuropeancitizenslivingherethattherewouldbenoimmediatechangesinyourcircumstances,therewillbenoinitialchangeinthewayourpeoplecantravel,inthewayourgoodscanmoveorthewayourser
6、vicescanbesold.WemustnowprepareforanegotiationwiththeEuropeanUnion.ThiswillneedtoinvolvefullengagementoftheScottish,WelshandNorthernIrelandgovernmentstoensurethattheinterestsofallpartsofourUnitedKingdomareprotectedandadvanced.Butaboveall,thiswillrequirestrong,determinedand
7、committedleadership.IamveryproudandveryhonoredtobePrimeMinisterofthiscountryforsixyears.Ibelievewe’vemadegreatstepswithmorepeopleinworkthaneverbeforeinourhistory,withreformstowelfareandeducation,increasingpeople’slifechances,buildingabiggerandstrongersociety,keepingourprom
