2、niqueisintroducedasatoolfordatabasedesign.Anexampleofdatabasedesignanddescriptionusingthemodelandthediagrammatictechniqueisgiven.Someimplicationsfordataintegrity,infor-mationretrieval,anddatamanipulationarediscussed.Theentity-relationshipmodelcanbeusedasabasi

6、ps(toacertainextent),butitscapabilitytoachievedataindependencehasbeenchallenged[S].Therelationalmodelisbasedonrelationaltheoryandcanachieveahighdegreeofdataindependence,butitmaylosesomeimportantsemanticinformationabouttherealworld[12,15,231.Theentitysetmodel,
