3、alysis;SustainableDevelopmentStrategies1.Introduction1.1BackgroundJiuzhaigouScenicArea(HereafterJSA)initiatedtourismin1981andstarteddevelopmentin1986.Sincethen,thenumberoftouristshasincreaseddramatically,from27,529in1984to1,700,297in2010(JinShaozhi,2011),theannualin
4、creasingrateisupabove23%,withthemostdramaticincreaseoccurringafter1998(LiWenjun,2005).TheroadfromChengducity(thecapitalofSichuanProvince)toJSAhadbeenimprovedthatyear,reducingthetraveltimefrom2daysto12drivinghours,andthetouristsaremostlyfromnearbyandotherdomesticciti
5、es.Asthenumberoftouristshasincreased,therevenuefromtourismhasalsogrown(LiWenjun,2006).1.2BriefingofthestudyareaTheJSAissituatedinthemountainousareaofthenorthernSichuanProvince,China(Fig.1).ItwasenlistedbyUNESCOastheWorldNaturalHeritagein1992andtheWorldBiosphereReser
6、vein1997(ZhangXiaoping,ZhuZhongfu,2007).JSAarerichoftourismresourcesandhaveattractedmoretouristsinrecentyears.Lakes,waterfalls,forests,snow-toppedpeaks,includingmodernglaciers,aredistributedalongthevalley(LiWenjun,2006).Moreover,traditionalcultureisalsoanattraction.
