2、afair,meaningfulandobjectiveassessmentoftheimpactperformanceofcars.Itisintendedtoinformconsumers,soprovidinganincentivetomanufacturersaswellasgivingcredittothosewhoexcelatoccupantorpedestrianprotection.ThetestsusedarebasedonthosedevelopedforlegislationbytheEuro
3、peanEnhancedVehiclesafetyCommittee(EEVC),forfrontalandsideimpactprotectionofcaroccupantsandfortheprotectionofpedestrianshitbythefrontofcars.Nostylisedtestprocedurefullyreflectstheprotectionprovidedbyacarinthewidevarietyofaccidentswhichoccurontheroads.However,ca
4、rsthatperformwellinthesetestsshouldprovidebetterprotectioninaccidentsthancarswhichperformlesswell.Noanthropometricdummiesareavailablewhichcanmeasureallthepotentialrisksofinjurytohumansorassessprotectionfordifferentsizesofoccupantindifferentseatingpositions.Toco
5、mpensateforthis,theassessmentproceduretakesaccountofotherinformationrelatedtooccupantkinematics,interiorcontactpointsandvehiclestructure.Economicconstraintspreventthetestsfrombeingrepeated,sototakeaccountofvehicleandtestvariationstakesaccountofactionshavebeenta
6、ken:Manufacturershavebeenaskedtocomparetheresultsfromthesetestswiththosefromteststheymayhaveconductedandtodrawourattentiontoanyanomaliestheymayfind.Theyhavealsobeenrequestedtosupplydatafromtheirownteststousforcomparison.Severalmanufacturershavesupplieddataforth
