2、tetolanguageproduction,fluencyandnativelikenessinEnglishspeakingandwriting.Numbersofcorpus—based/drivenresearchesfocusonbundlecharacteristicsusedbyNSandNNS,butfewoftheminvestigatebundlesinacademicwritingofaspecificdiscipline;anditisstillindoubtwhetherthepreviousgeneralfindingsonbundlecha
3、racteristicsareapplicabletoacertaindiscipline.Therefore,thisresearchestablishestwocorpora(about2millionrunningwords)andtriestOdiscoverthesimilaritiesanddifferencesinbundleuseinEnglishacademicwritingofAppliedLinguisticsbyChinesepostgraduatesandNSexperts.Basedonthecorporaretrieval,thetop50
4、four-wordlexicalbundlesareidentifiedandthenclassifiedintermsofstructuresandfunctions.Quantitativeandqualitativeanalysesareconductedtoexplorethedistribution,frequency,structuralandfunctionalcharacteristicsoflexicalbundlesamongthetwogroupsofwriters.Resultsshowthattheoveralldistributions(bo
5、thstructuresandfunctions)ofthetop50four-wordlexicalbundlesaresimilaramongstudentandexpertwriters.Howevertheyrelyondifferentlexicalbundleresources.StudentstendtooveruseVP.basedpatternsandaviodrelative-clausepatternscomparedwiththeircounterparts.Furtherstructuralandfunctionalanalysesreveal
6、moreproblemsinEnglishacademicwritingbyChinesepostgraduates:1.negativetransferinlexicalbundlesfromChinese;2.theabsenceofpragmaticqu{山t)roflexicalbundles;3.inappropriatebundleselectionsinfluencedbytheiridentityasnoviceresearchersThesefindingsshowthatproblemsstillexistinpostgraduates’bundle
