3、enteritisinpigletsisusuallyassociatedwithTransmissibleGastro-enteritisVirusorwithPorcineRotavirus.In1978,anewcoronavirus-likeagentwasdetectedintheintestinalcontentsofpigletswithdiarrhoea(11).TheagentwasshowntodifferantigenicallyfromtheporcinecoronavirusesTrans-missibleGastro-ente
4、ritisVirusandHaemagglutinatingEncephalomyelitisVirus.Theclinicalaspectsofthediseaseandthevirologicalaspectsofthecausativeagenthavebeendescribed(2).Themorphogenesisofthevirusisalsocharacteristicforamemberofthecoronaviridaefamily(15).Histopathological,histochemical(COUSSEMENTetal.,
5、tobepublished),ultrastructural(DUCA-TELLEetal.,tobepublished)andimmunofluorescencestudies(DEBOUCKetal.,tobepublished)oftheintestineincaesarean-derived,colostrum-deprivedpig-letshavebeendone.Thesestudieshaveshownthatthelesionsandthedistri-butionoftheviralantigenaresimilartoTransmi
6、ssibleGastro-enteritisViralinfection,althoughwithsomerestrictions:thelesionsareslightlylesssevere,andthevirusalsoreplicatesinthecolonicepitheliumbutwithoutcausinganyhistologicallesions.Thepurposeofthepresentstudyistodescribethealterationsoftheintestinalsurfaceandtorelatethemtopos
