1、Chapter11AnRT-PCRAssayforDetectionofInfectiousBronchitisCoronavirusSerotypesJunfengSunandShengwangLiuAbstractAvianinfectiousbronchitisvirus(IBV),achickenGammacoronavirus,isamajorpoultrypathogen,andisprobablyendemicinallregionswithintensivepoultryproduction.SinceIBVwasTrstdescribedin1936,manyserotype

2、sandvariantsofIBVhavebeenisolatedworldwide.IBVisolatesarecapableofinfectingalargerangeofepithelialsurfacesofthechicken,involvingtherespiratory,renal,andreproductivesystems;however,theclinicalsignsareusuallynotspeciTcfordifferentialdiagnoses.VirusisolationiscommonlyusedfordiagnosisofIBVinfection,whic

3、hwasachievedthroughpassageofclinicalmaterialsviatheallantoicrouteofembryos.Currently,moresensitivemolecularapproachesforthedetectionofavianpathogenshavebeendeveloped,includingreverse-transcriptasepolymerasechainreaction(RT-PCR)andreal-timeRT-PCR,whicharemoresuitableforuseindiagnosticlaboratories.Int
