3、CE.PARDEERANDGRADUATESCHOOLAbstractIfouterspacebecomesanactivetheaterofwar,theimpacttodailylifeonearthwouldbesubstantial.Unintendedconsequencesofattacksinspacearehardtocontainandarenotalwaysreadilyreversible—debrisorradiationgeneratingattacksrenderspecificorbitsunusabl
4、e,notjustforthedurationofthewar,butfortheforeseeablefuture.Withthelossofthoseorbits,ourliveswouldbeverydifferent—accurateweathermaps,overheadimagery,accesstobreakinginternationalnews,andnavigationservicesthatguideourcars,airplanes,andshipswouldalldisappear.Evenintheabs
5、enceofcatastrophicattacks,warinspacewouldhaveachillingeffectoncommercialuses.Deployingnewcapabilityinspaceisrisky,andwarwouldmakeitinfinitelymoreso.Spaceentrepreneurshipwouldgrindtoahalt,denyingmankindcapabilitieswehaveyettodreamof.Inthisdissertation,Iuseagametheoretic
6、modelofspacewartoexaminehowsentimentsinmultipledimensionsimpactstatedecisionsregardingwhethertoexpandagroundwarintothespacedomain.Keyinnovationsofthismodelarea)theuseofprospecttheoryinlieuofrationalchoiceandb)theassumptionofnon-unitaryactorswithindependentsentimentsreg
