2、untsofworkdevotedtoinvestigatingcorrosioninconcrete-embeddedsteel.Specifically,thesereferto:1)therelativesignificanceofgalvanicmacrocouplesandcorrosionmicrocellsinreinforcedconcretestructures;2)themechanismbywhichreinforcementscorrodeinanactivestate;3)thebestprotectivemethodsforpreventingor
3、stoppingreinforcementcorrosion;4)thepossibilityofareliablepredictionoftheservicelifeofareinforcedconcretestructure;and5)thebestcorrosionmeasurementandcontrolmethods.Theresponsesprovidedaresupportedbyexperimentalresults,mostofwhichwereobtainedbytheauthorsthemselves.1.INTRODUCTIONConcrete-emb
4、eddedsteelisknowntoremaininapassivestateundernormalconditionsasaresultofthehighlyalkalinepHofconcrete.Thepassivityofreinforcementsensuresunlimiteddurabilityofreinforcedconcrete(1KC)structures.However,therearesomeexceptionalconditionsthatdisruptsteelpassivityandcausereinforcementstobecorrode
5、dinanactivestate.Thishasraisedcontroversialinterpretations,someofwhichwerediscussedinPartIofthisseries[1].ThisPartIIanalysesthoughfarfromexhaustively,other-totheauthorsmindsatleast-equallyinterestingissuesonwhichnogeneralconsensushasbeenreached.2.MATERIALSANDMETHODSThereaderisreferredtoPart
6、Iforadetaileddescriptionofthematerialsandmethodsusedinthiswork.Mostoftheexperimentalresultsdiscussedhereinwereobtainedwiththesametypesofspecimensandslabs.Galvaniccouplesweredeterminedonspeciallydesignedspecimens,suchasthoseshowninFigs.1and2.Near-realconditionsweresimulatedbyusingabeamthatwa
