2、sfuljourneyoflife.Thereisnonecessityformetoembarkonacourseoflifewithfilledwithself-inflictedpainsanddifficulties.Indeed,asatalentedyounglecturerworkingatamajoruniversitywhosecareerisinascendancy,Ipossessasenseofpridethatmanyofmyfellowcompatriotsdonotpossess:astablejobwhichgivesmeastrongsenseofachie
3、vement,three-monthpaidvacationannually,awarmfamilylife,researchpapersandresearchprojectsthatfarexceedthoseofmycolleaguesbothinqualityandinquantity,pluscandidacyforthisyear’sassociateprofessorofxxxxxxUniversity.IfIgainaPh.D.degreefromanyofthemajorChineseuniversities,itisalmostcertainthatwithinfiveye
4、arsIwouldbecomeaprofessorofthexxxxxxxUniversity.Comparedwiththis,myacademicpursuitintheUnitedStateswouldbemuchmoredifficultandpainful:longseparationfrommyfamilymembers,culturalandlinguisticdisadvantages,possiblyalongerprogram(whereasinChinaaPh.D.programtakesatmostthreeyears).Nevertheless,Ibelieveth
5、atmydecisioniscorrect.Outofmyseriousreflections,Ihavearrivedatthefollowingrealizations.First,Icanneverdevelopmyselfintoafirst-ratescholarifIdonotobtainaPh.D.degreefromafirst-rateuniversity.Throughoutmyschoollife,Ihavebeenendeavoringtobethetopstudentofmyclass.SinceIstartedmycareerasateacher,Ihaveals
6、ourgedmyselftobeamongthebestemployees.Therefore,todevelopmyselfintoafirst-ratescholariscurrentlymymostferventaspiration.However,aneventthathappenedthreeyearsagochangedmyinitialplanofundertakingmyPh.D.studiesinChina.Threeyearsago,IwasworkingonmyMaster’sprograminmotivepowermechanicalengineeringinxxxx
