5、ngreatlyexpanded.Histreatise,Rhetoric,isregardedas“themostsignificantworksonpersuasioneverwritten”and“thesinglemostimportantworksonthestudyofspeechmaking”(Simon,H.W,1986:56).Traditionalrhetoricisflourishedindealingwithpracticalmattersofpersuasioninvolvedinpolitics,ethics,andsociology.Howeve
6、r,thetraditionalrhetorichasitsshortcomingsasittakesthelanguagepropertyintoconsideration,whileignorestheabundantmaterialofthewholelinguisticinteractioninconcretecontext.Asoneofthesub-linguistics,modernrhetoricstressedtheeffectivenessoflanguageandmakesresearchonpersuasionacademically.Itshedne
