3、isaltheoryisinitiallydevelopedbyJamesMartinintheearly1990sonthebasisofHalliday’sinterpersonalfunctionwithintheSystemicFunctionalLinguistic(SFL).Itcontainsthreesubsystems:Attitude,EngagementandGraduation.Thetheoryaimsatexploringinterpersonalmeaningofwrittenororaltextfromtheperspectiv
4、eofdiscoursesemantics.Itissuitableforevaluatingtheauthororspeaker’sattitudefromtheangleoflexicalchoices.Inotherwords,theauthor’sattitudesaremainlyrevealedbyhisorherlexicalresourceswhichcanbeinvestigatedwithintheframeworkofAppraisaltheory.AttitudeSystemisconcernedwiththefeelingsofthe
5、appraiseronpeopleandthings,includingemotionalreactions,judgementsofbehaviorandevaluationofthings.Itisfurtherdividedintothreesubsystems:affect,judgementandappreciation.Inrecentyears,Appraisaltheoryhasbeenwidelyappliedindiscourseanalysis,literaryworksisanewlyemergingareaoftheoryapplic
