3、realargeandwidelydistributedfamilyofsingle-strandedribonucleicacidviruses,andareimportantcausesofrespiratoryandentericdisease,vasculitis,serositis,hepatitis,andencephalomyelitisinseveralavianandmammalianspecies(Siddelletal.,1983).Felineinfectiousperitonitisvirus(FIPV),transmissi
4、blegastroenteritisvirus(TGEV)ofswine.caninecoronavirus(CCV),andhumanrespiratory-tractcoronavirusesofthe229Egrouptogethercompriseanantigenicclusterofclosely-relatedviruseswithintheCoronaviridaefamily(Pedersen,Ward&Mengeling,1978).Infact,themajorstructuralpolypeptidesofFIPV,TGEV,a
5、ndCCVaresosimilarantigenicallythatsomeregardthesethreeagentsashost-rangemutantsratherthanasindividualviralspecies(Horzinek,Lutz&Pedersen,1982).CORONAVIRUSINFECTIONSOFCATSIndomesticandexoticcats,FIPVistheaetiologicagentofalethaldisease-felineinfectiousperitonitis(FIP)-characteriz
