3、eliminarystudywasconductedtocomparetheregionalintestinalimmuneresponsesofneonatalcalvesinoculatedwithvirulentorattenuatedbovinecoronavirus(BCV)todeterminethecauseofreportedvaccinefailures.Agroupof9newborn,colostrum-deprivedcalveswasused;twocalveswereinoc
4、ulatedwithattenuatedvirus,fourcalveswereinfectedwithvirulentvirus(includingonenaturallyinfectedcalf),andthreecalveswereuninfectedcontrols.CalvesinoculatedwithvirulentvirusproducedhighertitersofBCVantibodiesintheintestinesthanthoseinoculatedwiththeattenua
5、tedvirus.Thefailureofthecalvestorespondtotheattenuatedviruswasapparentlyduetotheinabilityofthevirustoreplicatetohightiters.Spiralcolon,ileum,andjejunumwerefoundtobeimmunologicallydistinct;thehighestanti-BCVantibodyresponsesweredetectedinspiralcolon,thepr
