6、eoflibertyandafiercehatredoftyranny.HewasadmiredbyPushkinandLermontovinRussia,PetofiinHungary,LuXuninChinaandmanyothersinWesternEurope.喬治·戈登·拜倫（GeorgeGordonByron，1788-1824）生于倫敦一個破落貴族家庭，自幼有殘疾，生性敏感，10歲時繼承爵位，曾就讀于劍橋大學(xué)三一學(xué)院，成年后為上議院的議員。拜倫在學(xué)生時代開始寫詩，讀書期間出版了詩集《閑散的時刻》（HoursofIdleness，1807
7、），遭到《愛丁堡評論》（EdinburghReview）雜志的攻擊，他以《英國詩人與英格蘭評論家》（EnglishBardsandScotchReviewers,1809）一詩進(jìn)行回?fù)?，引起轟動。作者簡介809年，他取得上議院議員資格，隨后到歐洲進(jìn)行了為期兩年的游歷，遍訪西班牙、希臘等國。1812年，拜倫發(fā)表了歐洲游歷期間創(chuàng)作的《恰爾德·哈羅德游記》（ChildeHerold’sPilgrimage）的前兩章，一舉成名。隨后他又相繼寫出敘事詩《異教徒》（TheGiaour,1813）、《阿比多斯的新娘》（TheBrideofAbydos,1813）、
